Just invented a funny pick-up line...

As I was talking to Andi, our visiting associate*, we talked about how we didn't really care about watching the weather forecasts.
A: Yeah, there's really always someone to tell you
P: Yeah, and it's a much better way to start a conversation than talking about the actual current weather. You're not really better off after saying "sunny today huh?"
A: True because you involve your counterpart, they have to answer if you open with "do you know what the weather will be like tomorrow"
P: Heck it could be a pick up line...
A: Yeah and it's perfect because after that you can follow-up with "ok, I was planing some swimming in the lake, but I guess we'll just go to the movies instead"
P: Wow, we're geniuses...
A: I've got a girlfriend, but you've got to use it this week-end and tell me how it went!
me thinking "I have to blog this"
P: Sure...

Oh and I'll blog exactely how it went too...

Blows and insights...

Whenever I get the time to give a deep look at humanity, I am always baffled by the ability to produce some of the best you could imagine among a bulk of mid-range self-centered pulsion-driven average Joe's... Yet, most of us excel in something. Is it just the fact that you need a kick to feel you are alive? What floats each and every one's boat is likely of great diversity.

And whenever I try to see where I fit in, I find myself to be average Joe in most regards. So that's the deal... This week-end I got routinely checked for alcohol while driving home. Fare thee well driving license!
The fact that the car following us crashed into the railings 500 meters from the check didn't influence anything. Anyway I will keep you posted on this matter...

So lately my inside average Joe wanted to quote some smart-ass remark from Good Will Hunting in order to feel good about myself. In doing so I stumbled across the full script, that I have ended up reading most of (thus also explaining some of my recent tiredness, I will admit)!

I will leave you with something that might apply to me quite strongly:

SEAN (Robin Williams) Jesus Christ, you are an amateur.
WILL (Matt Damon) I know what I'm doing. She's different from the other girls I met. We have a really good time. She's smart, beautiful, fun...
SEAN So Christ, call her up.
WILL Why? So I can realize she's not so smart. That she's boring. You don't get it. Right now she's perfect, I don't want to ruin that.
SEAN And right now you're perfect too. Maybe you don't want to ruin that.

So that might very well be the deal with my inside average Joe not wanting to give up this social armor I built... Who knows?

Ciao, P

PS: Oh and I finished reading The Alchimist by P Coehlo. It and Cinema Paradiso are really trying to be the same thing... Follow and listen to yourself being the best journey, while sparsely administrating pearls of wisdoms in an innocent manner in order not to seem to pedantic! This apparently gets to the audience, and it got to me too of course, but I must admit that in hindsight I like to think about things myself instead of relying on some commonly accepted moral principles, be they religious or not... So I guess that I find the opus a bit to patronizing for my liking!

Just tell her...

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss

Today I woke up and I was thinking two things, that I probably shouldn't:
First off, what about setting the alarm clock a few quarters of an hour later?
Second, I realized that I was blocked in front of girls, I am totally unable to tell girls how I feel about them, especially in three scenarios*:
- I can't talk to a good looking girl...
- I can't admit that I don't want to have anything to deal with a girl seconds after having had sex with her**...
- I have a crush on a girl, she ends up dating someone else...

And in this very last scenario, I wonder where the limits are? I mean are there rules for that?

The first one is quite insolvable. That's why there is alcohol!

Patrick very cynically tried to define the rules for the second block in coupling*** with the cult sentence
"How long do you have to wait in the arms of a woman after having sex with her?"

For the last one, I need some guidance. In the very case that I should be tough and courageous enough to tell her... What do you say in those circumstances? Does the relationship you have to the boyfriend change anything?

Well well, I'm going to talk about that this week-end! Can only look forward to it...

P

* And I share that with quite a few other guys. After a long debate I decided to put this article in "I" form instead of writing "most men" all the time. It's both shorter and more captivating...

Sehr gut...

Dimanche tranquille avec Marc!

Bonne journée, P

* Marc L, Yoshi, Tina, Vincent, Jon, Ken, Marcel & une demi-meute de Roland Berger, dont certains, assez sympathiques, m'étaient déjà connus...

Avis officiels...

... Robbie Williams est au Park Hyatt!

On what drives us: Runaway Bride, Scrubs and other quotable stuff...

Yesterday after coming home from football w/BCG and Rundfunk.fm at the Landesmuseum, I watched a couple episodes of Scrubs. JD said in an episode wrap-up:
"Sometimes people lie because telling the truth would make them vulnerable"

I then wound up zapping our two channels (we don't have cable and our antenna is crap) SF1 and SF2. There Woody Allen gave me
"I just don't know what to do about this committment"...

It all and more random thoughts about women made me think of the movie "Runaway Bride". If you don't know the movie, let IMDB summarize it for you:
"A reporter is assigned to write a story about a woman who has left a string of fiances at the altar."

In the movie, Richard Gere finds out that Julia Roberts is an insecure girl that has done everything to be like and please her former fiances. At the altar though she always had the instinct to leave them because they weren't who she wanted... But until then she would motorbike with the biker, rockclimb with the rockclimber and party with the nightlife-yuppie. She would eat her eggs just like her boyfriend and they would all think it was a superb coincidence they would like their eggs prepared the exact same way!

Many people are just like that: doing the like of and agreeing with the peers they respect most... Or with their boyfriends (or gfs for that matter)!

The question: How do we define what we do: Do we really think about what we want to do or follow some bizzare rules to define our plan?

And as I think many of us are to needy for affection because of insecurity and/or driven by another fear so much that they become second-handers*, some sort of caracterless followers trying to fit in something for the sake of not taking a decision... What drives us? Which fears? Which wants? What needs?**

Rephrasing the question: What are we walking away from? What is the fear driving us? What are we trying to achieve?

Carl Jung once wrote: "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves."
I think that building up on that message - that could be simplified to "our world vision is influenced by our personality" - one can say that our actions are also driven by what we think of us and of the world...****

In "South Park: bigger, longer, uncut" Stan sings "there's a girl that I like"... Well, "I just don't know about this committment", she admits to being a runaway bride type***. How could I ever get to know the real her?

Or maybe I should just admit that it is all perfect and listening to JD's wisdom giving in to the fact that I lie to myself because the truth could make me vulnerable?

Well, anyways, I'm getting ready for a nice TGIF beer, take care and enjoy your week-end!
P

Let's go to Monte-Carlo...

And do some simulations! I have the distinct impression that there's always potential to meet great girls (my life seems so exciting after this sentence, I swear it's NOT!) and I keep trying to with various degrees of success...

Now what when I meet one that is cute, interesting and interested?
I just fast forward in my mind like crazy: Imagining, extrapolating, combining and analysing! So much that I think I have it all figured out in two months, why it's not going to work that is...

Then I start over again, that's why I talk about a Monte-Carlo simulation... And I think I just might have found my way out of it!

I am scared of having to become a bit more healthy, but other than that I could be going steady!

Will give updates! Until then, may you meet great girls...

A week-end of funny quotes...

Friday night, we made it men's evening for Marc J's birthday:
- Cordon Bleu (500 g.) @ Sonne
- Miller's @ Palavrion
- Absolut @ Adagio

Everyone - Marc, Adrien, Hanno, Blaise & yours truly - in a very very good mood! Awesome...

Best quote:

Saturday, it rained during the parade, fotos were taken, I was all in white and as such the only freak of our group... It wasn't the worst streetparade I have done over the years. Went to the Mascotte in the end and met Dr. Elliot Reid's twin sister...

Best quotes:
- You look like Elliot Reid
- I look like who?
silence
- Elliot Reid...
- What are you on?

and later with the same person...

- What will you have?
- A gin tonic...
- Will you marry me?*

Bonne semaine,
P

PS: Haven't been able yet to use The Office's trademark "that's what she said" line in real life, but still hopeful...

Big Brother? Loading now, please wait...

Bien, je me prépare à prendre ma raclée

"It's not IT"

"Tu me saoûles avec tes ..."

** What would Plato do?

P

PS: 17 stable brut, 35 stable net...

14% d'abstinence and so what?

Some stay young I guess!
** End aside **

* Et bien d'autres, n'est-ce pas Mario?
** au moment d'écrire ceci, pas au moment où l'article goes live
